MTD should buy futures in fuel right now to lock in these rates for 5 years to come like the Airlines do. Then they can't argue that fuel could rise in the future and they can keep their rates down at current levels.

Come on, blaming Bush for this guy's business failure? I guess I should thank Bush for my business' success. If everything is his fault, then even the good things are his fault.

Could it be due to the fact that the roots of those plants are still in the ground and holding it together? After a few more months they will weaken and then it could be trouble.

How about Venoco give $200 million to Carpinteria directly UPFRONT and then have the citizens vote on it? Mind you, it could still get turned down at the ballot box. That eliminates the possibility of a bait and switch or the State of California keeping all the royalties.
