How about Venoco give $200 million to Carpinteria directly UPFRONT and then have the citizens vote on it? Mind you, it could still get turned down at the ballot box. That eliminates the possibility of a bait and switch or the State of California keeping all the royalties.

MTD should buy futures in fuel right now to lock in these rates for 5 years to come like the Airlines do. Then they can't argue that fuel could rise in the future and they can keep their rates down at current levels.

You can find a list of closed restaurants at Santabarbara.com's restaurant guide. They include Bricks Cafe, Carrows on Cabrillo, Piranha, Ruby's Diner, Pita Inn (lasted a whole month), Java Jon's, Smokin' Jacks, Chad's, Rincon Sub, Chili Town, El Caballo, A Capella, among many others.
