I don't have kids and think the Westside Boy's and Girl's Club is essential to the community. Magda is a real dynamo. Honestly I am so impressed with her. I don't know where she gets the energy, patience and determination that she possesses.
She is a community treasure and we desperately need to keep her and the Westside Boys' and Girl's Club open.

I had reservations about the club and don't have much occasion to go there but now that I see what goes on there it is amazing.

I spoke with a hotelier in Boston the other day and they don't like dealing with Priceline or Expedia. You know when they say if you find a better deal Expedia will send you a check for the difference? Well it comes right out of the pocket of the hotel it doesn't come from Expedia, maybe Hilton or Hyatt can afford to do this but an independent or boutique can not.

Very interesting article. Once again you get what you pay for.

I am a 20 year plus veteran travel agent. Everyone is so obsessed with getting the BEST deal that they do themselves a disservice. The other thing the public doesn't understand is value for dollar. More often than not I can beat or at least meet the internet price and I WILL EXPLAIN all the rules to you before you spend a dime. We, your local travels agents are not trying to "rip you off". The only way we can stay in business is by repeat clientele and word of mouth. The internet has put a huge dent in our livelihood. Often we have contracts with tour operators/cruise lines/airlines that will benefit YOU the customer with extra amenities. Yes we do charge a small service fee but you are paying for our expertise and you have someone to call when things don't go as planned. I would like to see Priceline or Expedia answer your call when you are stuck in Dallas and the airport is closed due to thunderstorms.
EXAMPLE: Customers call wanting a trip to Honolulu 8 nights, nice property on or near the beach. I can find them a good deal at a nice hotel across the street from the beach with a reputable tour operator cost 2080.00 They can find a package on the internet same flights same hotel for 2040.00 So why should she book with me? My package includes rt airport transfers and a partial ocean view room. Internet package no transfers and a city view room. So what is the better deal?

OK first of all I admit I don't know all the ins and outs of opening up a business like BevMo, that being said I assume the city council gave this the go ahead because they figure they will reap big tax profits from it and we all know how DESPERATE they city is for $$. Some of my questions are: Do they need a license to serve liquor like a restaurant does? For .25 a shot, oops I mean taste of wine aren't they concerned it will increase the amount of drunk drivers? Although this might be part of the city's master plan to have the cops hang out by BevMo to snatch all those driver's and give them DUI's and therefore increase the city/county/state revenues.
Can the hours that Bevmo receives it shipments be restricted to non high traffic times say maybe 3:00 AM?
What are their hours of operation? Please tell me this is not a 24 hour gig.
Now that we have BevMo can we please have Target too?

Went to see this last week. Although I liked to story line the play was slow moving and the first act was quite long. My friend and I couldn't decide if we should stay for the second act or not. We noticed several people leaving and my friend said everyone was voting with the feet so opted to follow along and left. Sorry to report

Oh goodie Santa Barbara will get another dusting of ashes!

My question is how much is it going to cost to fight this fire and can the county (not that there is a choice) afford to pay for it? The fire fighters must be so tired of this year after year. I would pay higher taxes to pay them and get the equipment we need to keep in this county.

Why can't we as a society look beyond the color of someone's skin?
I am not familiar with ALL of the candidates. There are something like 11,12,13 running. I think we should admire the gumption it takes to even pursue a seat on they city council.
Perhaps it would be a good idea also to notice the people the candidates associate with. I know for a fact that Mr. Pritchett is married to a Latina woman, who by the way used to be one of the big guns at the Independent.
