There is a myth about how welcoming Santa Barbara is to the homeless and mentally ill. They arrive daily by bus from all over the US, sent here by family members hoping to give their relatives a cushy Santa Barbara life.

"Fifty eight percent of people staying at Casa Esperanza this winter lived in the Santa Barbara area immediately prior to becoming homeless."

So that means that 42% of the people CAME to SANTA BARBARA to be homeless?

No wonder the budget is a mess.

Last week when driving by the spot where Jake was killed I saw a car stray across the yellow line while the driver was distracted by all that stuff hanging from the fence, nearly causing a head-on collision. It's very sad that Jake died but that shrine is a traffic hazzard. Couldn't all those items be transferred to his grave?
