Wind Advisory Issued For South Coast
Affecting Greater Santa Barbara Coastal Region; Gale and Small Craft Warnings also
A wind advisory remains in effect until 3am Thursday.
– Timing: gusty northwesterly winds will develop this afternoon and continue through tonight.
– Winds: areas of northwest to northeast winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph are expected. Winds will be strongest below passes and canyons…especially between Gaviota and Goleta.
– Impacts: gusty cross winds will affect drivers…especially on highway 154 near the San Marcos Pass and Highway 101 near the Gaviota Pass.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

A small craft advisory remains in effect until 3am Thursday for East Santa Barbara Channel From Pt. Conception To Pt. Mugu, including Santa Cruz And Anacapa Islands-
– Winds: West to northwest winds 15 to 25kt will continue through
Thursday night. Across the western half of the channel, there will be local gusts to 35kt.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions
A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft. Inexperienced mariners; especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

A gale warning has been issued in the waters from Pt. Arguello to Santa Cruz Island, and westward 60 nautical miles, including San Miguel and Santa Rosa Islands.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions
A gale warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
