Mini-Bump For Jackson

Hannah-Beth Jackson finally halted Tony Strickland's consecutive day winning streak in the 19th state senate district, as a newly counted batch of some 2,000 Santa Barbara County votes trimmed the Republican's lead.

Strickland now holds a 1,721 vote edge over Jackson:

Strickland 200,777 (50.2)
Jackson 199,056 (49.7)

As a practical matter, the new vote count puts Jackson back within the one-half percent margin that would automatically trigger a manual recount of the vote, if it holds up as tallying in the close contest continues in S.B., Ventura and L.A. counties.

Check out my column about the political play behind the photo-finish in the contest, in this week's print edition of the Indie, on the stands Thursday.
