Measure A Set to Pass

Measure A, a one-half cent sales tax to fund transportation projects in Santa Barbara County, looks like it will pass. With 70 percent of precincts reporting, Measure A has 79.6 percent of the vote.

Siad John Whitehurst, an San Francisco consultant brought on to run the campaign: "Measure A will break all records for Santa Barbara. We've made history with the wide support from the left and the right, the democrats and republicans, the business community."

He credited the universal support among all political strides, the well-executed campaign, and the great Democratic turnout that favored a tax measure. "We're very, very, very happy," Whitehurst said.

The measure will continue the one-half sales tax, Measure D. A measure which would've raised the tax by one-quarter cent was rejected by voters in 2006.

"It's remarkable," 1st District Supervisor Salud Carbajal said.
