Right now, CNN and every other news source is giving the 2008 presidential election to Barack Obama. He will be the first black president in the United States history, a monumental moment for the entire nation, no matter your political affiliation.
With TV commentators fawning over the moment, newspaper columnists sure to pen long essays of their reactions, and the rest of the populace left to reflect on such a historic moment, does this mean we have breached a 200-plus-year hurdle? Have African-Americans and the rest of Americans reached the promised land of equality and justice for all races?
Assuredly not, thinks this blogger, for there are many strides to be made in this never-ending battle for equal justice. However, this is undeniably a major step, a powerful symbol that America has graduated to a more mature, more egalitarian state of mind.
