How Many Ballots Left?

With so many races so close, all eyes are on the county elections office, where the Clerk-Recorder Joe Holland reports that there are 30,000 absentee ballots still to be counted in addition to about 6,000 provisional ballots, most of which are cast by people who lost their vote-by-mail ballot. "Our goal is to have an updated report by Friday," said Holland of the absentee ballots. As for the provisionals, Holland explained, "We'll hopefully have something out in the middle of next week."

Likely to be affected by these ballots are:

^a the 19th State Senate District race between Hannah-Beth Jackson and Tony Strickland, where the gap is just 108 votes currently;

^a the Carpinteria City Council race, where incumbent Joe Armendariz regained his seat safely, but the second seat race is still on between Kathleen Reddington and Steve McWhirter. She is leading by 25 votes.

^a the Santa Barbara School Board, where the top two seats are going to Annette Cordero and Susan Deacon, but the race for the third seat sees Ed Heron up only about 200 votes on Charlotte Ware
