crows on a wire

There weren’t enough cinderblocks in the world to save us;

Nor sandbags

Nor dirt filled tires.

All we could do was flinch like startled crows;

Dumb-assed crows

Crows on a wire.

Damn the men who shook our hands then bid us dig our graves;

Damn the President

And damn the congress.

Damn the Pope and all the senators and the ( U.S. ) Army too;

And God

And you.

No-one tried to save us when the wind caught fire;

Dead crows dangling

Crows on a wire.

It was dinnertime when Death arrived;

He filled his belly with bread

And drank all the wine.
