The Sphinx is a lady and a rock
who ponderously shrugs off
she blinks a subtle blink
when the wind casts sand in her face,
she cannot sleep, she can only dream:
granite and sandstone dreams
and she waits beneath the
crescent moon alone
because she is the last of her kind.
The Sphinx is a lion by half
with the blunted teeth of a widow.
