On May 14, a large group of local wine nerds got together to blindly taste 35 bottles of Chardonnay, Grenache, Syrah, and Rhone Blends.
Attendee and Photographer Marc Liberts has documented the event, informally but appropriately named "winEmergency", and posted photographs and the results in an article on Santa Barbara Edhat.
It's definitely worth a read, considering many of the wines are from Santa Barbara County, including three out of the four winners of the evening:
2008 The Paring "The Hilt" Chardonnay (although I must add my personal favorite was their 2009 "The Point" Chard, also present)
2006 Rey Grenache Central Coast
2005 Zepaltas Rosella's Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands
2006 Ampelos Syrache Santa Barbara County
For some nice tasting notes, scores, and more, read on.
