In an effort to recruit more substitute teachers to the Santa
Barbara School Districts, the district implemented a pay raise for
the much-needed fill-in teachers this week. Effective March 1, a
substitute’s per-day compensation of $90-$95 will be increased to
$105-$115; the actual amount varies depending on the number of days
previously subbed in the district. According to school officials,
the raise – which was approved by the School Board earlier this
year – comes at a time when substitute availability in local
schools is at an all-time low.
