“By the Numbers” on last week’s Living page placed the average
cost per parking ticket at $45. The actual number is $40.

Last week’s film preview “Destination Stoke” erroneously stated
that Bobby Martinez was the first Santa Barbara native since Tom
Curren to qualify for the World Championship Tour of Surfing. S.B.
surfer Chris Brown was a WCT competitor for at least three years in
the early 1990s.

In last week’s News of the Week brief “Do the Right Thing,” we
incorrectly reported that the national leadership of the American
Postal Workers Union (APWU) had reversed its decision to deny funds
collected from its members to the survivors of Maleka Higgins — one
of six postal workers shot and killed at the Goleta postal annex
one month ago — because Higgins had opted out of the union in 2004.
To date, the national union leadership continues to deny Higgins’s
survivors any share of funds collected on behalf of the victims’
families. The union’s Web site still excludes Higgins’s name and
photograph. Members of the S.B. local of APWU will vote later this
week whether to make Higgins an honorary union member, despite her
decision to leave the union. If that vote is affirmative, Higgins’s
relatives would become eligible to receive the same amount as the
families of the other postal workers killed. The action by the
national union has spurred controversy among postal workers
nationwide, and in S.B. there are reports that some postal workers
are renouncing their membership in protest.
