Santa Barbara Westside native Bobby Martinez continued his giant
killing on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Surfing
Championship Tour last week, taking home first place in the
bone-snapping surf of Teahupoo (pronounced cho•pu) in Tahiti. The
23-year-old goofy foot took out several of the best surfers in the
world on the way to his first-ever tour win and netted a hefty
portion of the $260,000 purse. In this, his rookie campaign,
Martinez currently finds himself ranked No. 2 in the world after
three events of the 12-event tour. The tour is scheduled to
continue in Cloudbreak, Fiji, early next week.
