Convicted Devereux School rapist Darren Boyer Thomas was
sentenced to eight years in prison last week in a Santa Barbara
court. Earlier this spring, it took a jury fewer than two hours to
find the 39-year-old Thomas guilty of raping a severely autistic
former client of his at the Devereux School in Goleta. Thomas
maintained his innocence until the end, despite the fact that DNA
evidence directly linked him to the woman’s aborted child. The
sentence was the maximum term allowed. The legal trouble is not
finished for Thomas, as he faces a hearing later this summer on
possible perjury charges stemming from his testimony during the
original trial.
