Sexual Assault Awareness Month Focuses on Middle Schoolers

The Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center (SBRCC) will direct their focus on a younger crowd this April, during the nationally recognized sexual awareness month. The group plans to launch a new campaign, aimed at Junior High School students, titled “Tools for Change: Building Lives Free From Sexual Violence.” The SBRCC believes that middle school students are receptive to the information, skills, and support they need to resist discrimination and violence later in life. Through the campaign, the group hopes to empower local youth by providing tools to create positive change. Campaign activities include poetry performances by Poet Ishle Park on April 12 and 13 at Carpinteria Middle School, and workshops on rape prevention the following week. Students and parents alike will receive toolkits to provide them with the information they need to resist sexual discrimination and violence.
