Third District Supervisor Brooks Firestone and 1st District Supervisor Salud Carbajal presented their plans regarding county healthcare to the Santa Barbara Taxpayers Association on 5/10. While Firestone opposed spending $1 million of the county’s budget on providing healthcare to uninsured children, Carbajal strongly endorsed the plan. As of 2005, the county had the second highest percentage-14.1 percent-of uninsured children in the state.
