Sugarcult returns to their hometown for a benefit show at The Hub on the UCSB campus tonight, Thursday, June 7, in a show with The Dance from Isla Vista and The Coral Sea out of S.B. After touring America, Europe, and Japan for the past six years and selling more than one million records, Sugarcult has acquired some “super-fans,” according to guitarist Marko 72, a former Indy writer. Here’s a list of those fans; you can also buy the band’s new album, Lights Out, and check out sugarcult.com and myspace.com/sugarcult.

1) Alix Piorun (Brooklyn, NY): “This girl has seen us play more than 60 times since we began touring nationally in 2001; she also shares the honor of being the first person to ever vomit on our tour bus. It was her 21st birthday!”

2) Japan: “Fans wait for us at the airport and hotel lobbies. They create mob scenes and bang on the windows of our shuttle vans, find out our bullet-train schedule and follow us, bring us elaborate gifts, and know every little detail about each of us. It’s both creepy and amazing. We just returned from our ninth trip over there!”

3) Barry Sarath (England): “This guy, his wife, and son wait in line to buy tickets #1, 2, and 3 for all of our U.K. shows, even though we now give them free passes. They’ve even flown over here to see us. As a gift, Barry gave me original vinyl pressings of about 50 rare U.K. punk records (The Clash, The Buzzcocks, etc). And to our singer Tim Pagnotta, a guitar once owned by Elvis Costello.”

4) Ernest Blackmore (Ventura, CA): “This dude has two favorite bands that are nothing alike: Sugarcult and Rush. He has resorted to making flyers and posters on his own dime to promote us through the years. When we toured with Green Day, he popped up at various shows around the country.”

5) Christi Fuller (Carpinteria, CA): “Our first super-fan. She would have her mom take her to all of our shows when we were still an unsigned local band in Santa Barbara. If it was at the Wildcat or another bar, she’d just stand outside and listen through the window. We employed her (for free) to hand-label our self-burned demo CDs that we would put in used jewel cases that we’d dig out of KJEE’s Dumpster and sell at our shows.”
