The United Way of Santa Barbara County is funding the expansion of Fun in the Sun to serve more that 300 children at a new location in Carpinteria. Fun in the Sun is a collaboration of more than 25 local organizations whose goal is to provide underprivileged children with summer educational and enrichment opportunities at no cost.

This year’s program, which began June 25 and will run until August 10, is based at Harding and Franklin schools in Santa Barbara, Elwood School in Goleta and Canalino School in Carpinteria. Throughout the course of the seven-week program, children will be given the opportunity to participate in educational, artistic, social and recreational activities that strengthen and reinforce skills that normally weaken over the summer months. For more information on how to get involved in Fun in the Sun, contact Maggie Walsh, coordinator of the event, or Paul Didier, CEO and President of The United Way of Santa Barbara County at 965-8591, or visit the United Way’s website.
