Santa Barbara County 3rd District Supervisor Brooks Firestone has chosen Santa Ynez resident Charles “CJ” Jackson to replace former planning commissioner David Smyser, who resigned to spend more time practicing law. Jackson, who will be sworn in at the Sept. 12 planning commission meeting in Santa Maria, is the board director of Cottage Health Systems, the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation, the Santa Ynez Valley Economic Forecast Group, and is the former chair and director of the Dunn School Board of Trustees.

“CJ Jackson brings a strong knowledge of land use issues to the table,” Firestone said in a statement. “His involvement in the community is impressive and he understands how to represent a diverse number of concerns.”
