After expressing serious concerns about the possibility of bias and conflict of interest, the county supervisors voted unanimously to approve 3rd District Supervisor Brooks Firestone’s nomination of C.J. Jackson-co-owner of the Alisal Ranch-to the county Planning Commission. Jackson’s appointment was protested by the Santa Ynez Chumash, who are resentful of his opposition to the casino. Other supervisors cited his landholdings as posing a conflict of interest, but were reluctant to interfere with another supervisor’s appointment.
