Santa Barbara-Area Gay and Lesbian Students Receive Scholarships

The Gay and Lesbian Business Association (GLBA) of Santa Barbara will present its 2007 scholarship awards to gay and lesbian students in our community on October 19 at the home of Claude Raffin and Jon Gathercole, two ongoing contributors to the organization. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the award recipients and hear about their goals and aspirations, as well as participate in initial fundraising for next year’s scholarships. The evening will include a community reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres.

GLBA currently awards four scholarships annually to young, Santa Barbara-area gays and lesbians. Recipients are chosen each year based on their financial need, career goals, and potential for present and future contribution to the Santa Barbara community. The organization has continued to support a thriving and healthy gay and lesbian community in Santa Barbara since its founding in 1985. The awards reception is an essential event for the community because it strengthens ties with the young-adult generation, showing them an active, supportive gay and lesbian community that extends far beyond the bar and nightclub scene.
