“We’re selling weed to raise money for rehab,” Leo (played by Shawn Andrews) states to an old smoking buddy in Fix, which portrays a one-day journey through Los Angeles as Milo (played by Tao Ruspoli, holding the camera) tries to escort his brother Leo to rehab. He’s got a deadline: Leo’s got to check himself into rehab by 8:00 p.m., or it’s back to jail. This is the deal negotiated by Leo’s lawyer. Sounds simple? Well, they need to pony up $5,000 for the entry fee, hence the drug deals on the way.

What happened in the aforementioned potential drug deal? Leo was trying to sell to someone newly sober: three months and change, he rattles off with pride. So, it’s off on a quest with a bag of weed, and it gets seedier from there. Though it may sound like a sophomoric road trip, Fix is intelligent, fast-paced, well-shot, and zips through the streets and backstreets of Los Angeles. Documentary filmmaker and Milo’s partner in crime Bella, played by Olivia Wilde (The O.C., Turistas), is an effective mix of pushy and light-hearted, but after all, she has a job to do. Leo’s girlfriend Carmen, played by Megalyn Echikunwoke (The 4400, That ’70s Show) winningly talks a pot grower out of some kind bud. Do they make their deadline? You’ll have to go to one of the screenings to find out.

Fix screens again showing today, Saturday, January 26, at 4:30 p.m. at the Lobero.
