Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District chief Terry Dressler said they are suing EPA for failing to honor its commitment to generate new clean air rules for cargo ships by 2007, postponing them until 2009. He stated that nitrous oxide emissions now generated by cargo ships in the channel exceed those of all motorized vehicles in Santa Barbara, and that the volume of ship traffic is expected to double over the next decade.
