In the wake of January’s rains, which washed a huge concentration of “suspended and dissolved plant-based materials” into Cachuma Lake from areas burned in the Zaca Fire, the City of Santa Barbara made an emergency purchase of more than $100,000 worth of powdered activated carbon to filter out contaminants from drinking water. The City Council approved the expenditure retroactively on 2/12.
