The Lowdown:

The Mind & Supermind series draws hundreds of people every term, making it one of Adult Ed’s most popular offerings. The series’ subtitle, “Expanding the Limits of Consciousness” gives you a clue as to the kinds of topics that are discussed in lectures given by featured guest speakers, which have included philosophers, psychologists, spiritual teachers, scientists, healers, authors, and visionaries from around the world. The fourth Mind & Supermind presentation for the winter term is coming up on March 3, when Richard Moss will explore transformation, self-healing, and the art of conscious living in his talk, Discovering the Power of Awareness.

Dr. Moss, whose work bridges science, psychology, energy medicine, and spiritual practices, was trained as a physician. But at age 30 Moss decided to leave his medical practice. According to his website, he had a “life-changing realization” at that time and shifted the direction of his professional life in favor of “dedicating his life to helping people realize their multidimensional nature and achieve fulfillment and wellbeing.” As a teacher and author, his work examines how and why we create conflict in our lives, and – more importantly – how to alleviate it. By emphasizing practical applications for focusing and stabilizing the mind in a practice he calls “sacred attention,” Moss guides people to explore the present moment and overcome fear in order to live an authentic and fulfilling life, increasing happiness, wisdom, compassion, and service.

If you stop for a moment and consider the tendency many of us have these days to rush from here to there, ruminate over the past, and stress about the future, Dr. Moss’ concept of “sacred attention” and exploring the moment sounds pretty appealing.

Quote: “Richard’s formula for coming back to the present is a process we can all achieve.” – Anthony Robbins
