Following the 2/20 demolition of a malfunctioning spy satellite last week, Vandenberg Air Force Base has begun tracking the 3,000 bits of resulting debris. Launched in December 2006, the satellite ceased working properly once in space. Though the toxic fuel contained in the satellite has reportedly dissipated, the debris-some bits of which are reportedly the size of a football-is expected to disintegrate upon entering Earth’s atmosphere, Vandenberg officials said.
