One undeniable fact about Stephen Malkmus (formerly of Pavement) is that the indie king can jam on the guitar; put him in the studio with the ever talented Janet Weiss (drummer of Sleater-Kinney and Quasi) and it’s no surprise that his new album with The Jicks, Real Emotional Trash, rocks out completely, from start to finish. His fourth solo LP since he left ’90s indie rock band Pavement, Real Emotional Trash weaves the dreamy chords of his second album-and a few of the solid beats from his third-with his and Weiss’s supreme low-down and heavy jam rockin’ tendencies. Together, the two create 55 minutes of sound that covers new territory without escaping what is so Malkmus about it.
