Phillip Matovich, 26, the man arrested on 5/17 for breaking into Ladera Street Apartments, stripping nude, and threatening the lives of residents, was arraigned on 5/22 and pled not guilty to nine felony counts, including attempted murder. Judge George Eskin set a preliminary hearing date for 6/19. As a result of three alleged probation violations, the probation office requested Matovich not be released on bail, which was set at $500,000. (matovich529)

A 5/22 arraignment for Peter Jeschkethe former Santa Barbara High assistant girls’ tennis coach facing 18 criminal charges, including having sexual intercourse with a minorwas continued to 6/2. Defense attorney Allen Bifano, before Judge Brian Hill, asked to have a different judge hear the case. The case will now be heard by Judge Frank Ochoa for the duration. Jeschke, who is out on bail, has denied the charges.

During two DUI checkpoints at 800 E. Haley St. and 400 Garden St. on 5/25, Santa Barbara police arrested six drivers for alleged DUIs and cited three people for driving unlicensed and one for a warrant. Nine vehicles in total were towed. During the long Memorial Day weekend, five more people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and one was arrested for a DUI while riding a bicycle.
