Fresco owners Mark and Jill Brouillard have tasted success with their always crowded Five Points location (3987-B State St., 967-6037), but their attempts to open new locations have not quite experienced the same following. While watching their Santa Barbara Museum of Art location close, they have opened the already busy doors to Fresco Cafe North in Goleta (5940 Calle Real, 692-8999).

The decision to move in this direction was made to focus on consistency within the Fresco brand, which is why North was designed to continue the prototype of the Five Points location. The tiny museum location, while quite lovely, did not have an appropriate space to fit the recipe. The Brouillards are now looking south for their continued expansion with the hope of opening a Ventura location in the near future.

Fresco Cafe North is committed to bringing the same quality of ingredients that patrons have come to expect. The menu is identical to the Five Points menu and, in the same manner, will dish up chalkboard entree specials as well as to-die-for desserts. Their serving style is one that is not easily mimicked. Patrons stand in line to order, receiving a wooden spoon with a number on it to identify themselves to the wait staff. This method of ordering is complemented by bread baskets brought to the table upon seating as well as prompt and attentive service by a friendly staff. The efficient service and warm ambience help make this much more than your typical sandwich deli. The daily menu’s focus is on soups, salads, and sandwiches. The dessert case houses massive iced cupcakes, sumptuous chocolate cake, and delightful berry tarts; it is not uncommon to see customers waiting in line to purchase a single cupcake to go.
