THE PICKUP ARTIST

This past Saturday, The Seymour Duncan Band, fronted by guitar innovator and S.B. resident Seymour Duncan, took to the main Fiesta stage to perform. There, Duncan picked up an Award of Appreciation from the Old Spanish Days committee for his contributions to the festival and the music world. Seymour is best known for his work with Les Paul, and the manufacturing of electric guitar pickups.

A QUEST FOR PEACE

16-year-old Santa Barbarian Erik Choquette recently won top prize in the 2008 Swackhamer Disarmament Video Contest. His winning animated video, Nuclear Peace, scored the SBHS junior $1,000 in the national competition, sponsored by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. OUTSIDE THE BOX

Notes for Notes, the nonprofit behind 1235 Teen Center’s well-known Music Box Studio, recently announced that it will be opening a second facility this fall. With backing from the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation and the S.B. Boys and Girls Club, the Music Box II will provide free musical instruments and music classes to local youths. The facility will open at the Boys and Girls Club at 632 E. Canon Perdido St.
