The Goleta Planning Commission unanimously approved a rezone of a lot on Hollister Avenue to C-2 Commercial on 8/11, in order to accommodate a FedEx building on the site, 6466 Hollister Ave. The lot, previously zoned for industrial use, was formerly used as a skating rink. However, the General Plan adopted by the City of Goleta in 2006 determined that commercial use would be more appropriate for this Hollister corridor property.

The Santa Barbara Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) unanimously approved annexation of the Makar Property by the Goleta Water District on 8/7. Although a golf course was approved for the parcel-which is located on the Gaviota Coast-in 1998, the California Coastal Commission denied the construction permit due to the existence of an endangered frog on the property. Currently, Makar Properties, LLC is applying for a permit to build two large homes on the property.
