D'Vine Cafe
Jen Villa

Where: 205 West Canon Perdido Street (corner of De la Vina Street), 963-9591, dvinecafe.com

What: A casual go-to stop for breakfast, lunch, smoothies, or an espresso

How much: Pancakes ($5.50), salads ($4.95-$8.25), half sandwiches ($4.50), and whole sandwiches ($5.50-$8.25)

The dish: This breakfast and lunch spot favorite is one most patrons have heard about through the restaurant grapevine, as its location is a couple of blocks off of State Street. Fresh ingredients, traditional deli sandwiches, and carefully selected products are staples of the foliage-blanketed corner restaurant. With a wide open dining area that spills out onto the outdoor patio, patrons can comfortably nosh on cold cut or grilled sandwiches, salads, or whole wheat French toast (which, like the other breakfast items, are only served until 11am). See daily specials and conveniently order online if your lunch hour time is pressing. Popular options are the D’Vine wrap (turkey, salami, light ranch, L and T), the Reuben (grilled corn beef, Swiss, and sauerkraut on rye), and the Scoopa’ tuna salad (on a sandwich or mixed greens). Beverages include a full espresso bar, Fair Trade Certified Brazuka Coffee, and the Peach Chai Smoothie. It’s impossible to ignore desserts, such as Nuclear Ding Dongs, Peanut Butter Cups for Grown Ups, and large, visibly moist chocolate chip walnut cookies that line the inside of the glass deli case where staff notices that most people will point and say, “Oh yeah, and one of those, too, please.”
