Goleta-based Direct Relief International (DRI) announced on 9/1 that it will send $250,000 in “special hurricane response funds” to assist medical units responding to Hurricane Gustav. Recipients include the National Association of Community Health Centers, the State Primary Care Associations around the Gulf of Mexico, and clinics that DRI has worked with since 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. The humanitarian aid nonprofit had previously sent over 18 hurricane preparedness packs in anticipation of other storms.
