Since 1974, the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center (SBRCC) has been supporting survivors of sexual assault and working to end sexual violence. In addition to a 24-hour hotline, crisis and long-term counseling, support groups, and sexual assault prevention education programs, the center offers self-defense classes. Open to women and girls, 13 years old and older, the four-hour workshop trains participants in awareness, assertiveness, and physical self-defense techniques in an empowering, supportive, and fun environment. Cost is $30; partial scholarships are available. It takes place Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the center (433 E. Canon Perdido St.). Preregister by calling 963-6832 x12.
