Colourmusic

It came as quite a shock when receiving a mailing from their label, that I already had a copy of Colourmusic’s debut release: F, Monday, February, Venus, Lunat among my personal CD collection. I bought the release back in February actually, after watching the Oklahoman’s (plus one Brit) open for British Sea Power during Noise Pop. When selling their album, they did explicitly mention it wasn’t released yet. And I bought it because they were one of several bands between January and March to not only open for big headliners but also to knock the audience out to a degree the headers may have had trouble following their lead.

Dressed in white jumpsuits with rainbow pinwheels on their lapels, the boys who make up Colourmusic look very much like Teletubbies when on stage. But they are much, much more enjoyable than the puppets they may resemble. Their album, mostly light hearted with a bit of a pop style repetition, is impressively polished. Notable tracks are, “The Gospel Song,” and “You Can Call Me By My Name,” the second of which has become a personal favorite song of the year.

Spaceland will provide the stage for the electric/acoustic accompaniment, and concert goers can fully expect a fun night of rockin’ music at one of the hippest LA Indie music venues. Also playing are Dressy Bessy and The Minor Canon.

Spaceland’s doors, located at 1717 Silverlake Boulevard, open Saturday, 8:30 p.m., and the 21+ show costs $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
