Obama at SBCC

Where will you be on President Barack Obama‘s inauguration day?

If you’re like one of the many hundreds of Santa Barbarans planning to watch the historic occasion is one of our town’s most historic venues, then you’ll be at the Arlington on the morning of Tuesday, January 20, when the theater opens its doors to the public and offers a free live high definition broadcast of Obama’s big day on the big screen. The Arlington is one of a small number of large theaters in the country that’s capable of a hi-def live television feed, according to a press release from Metropolitan Theaters, which is hosting the event as a public service.

The doors open at 7:30 a.m., and seating is first come/first served. The inauguration begins around 9 a.m. and the official oath of office will occur around 9:30 a.m. Coverage will continue till about noon.

For those stuck at work, you can follow Independent.com‘s coverage on this website. Or better yet, get the news firsthand from our reporter Ethan Stewart, who took the train last week from Santa Barbara to Chicago and onto D.C., where he arrives later today. His reporting from The Obama Express has been coming fast and furious for the past few days, so check out independent.com/obama-express today.

Later on Tuesday evening, there are multiple inaugural ball events in Santa Barbara, including the UniTea Ball at The Granada, which also includes a concert and is a benefit for Tea Fire victims, and the Santa Barbara Democrats’ party at Carr Winery, which costs $25 to get in.
