While the candles of Hanukkah have long dimmed, that doesn’t mean you still can’t be appropriately lit for the season. Shmaltz Brewing offers its seasonal 12th Anniversary Ale Jewbelation Twelve, brewed with 12 malts and 12 hops (and approaching 12 percent alcohol). Even just on the nose the malts, wonderfully roasted, lure you further into this deliciously dark brew. And while it’s not hopped like some West Coast IPA, there’s enough tang to keep that malt sweetness from going overboard. Just don’t drink too much or you’ll end up spinning like a dreidl. Instead, have a good laugh at the wit of their marketing campaign, as the 22 oz. bottle features, in print small enough even a sober person could barely read it, a litany of 12s, from the obvious-inches in a foot-to the more obscure: “Son of a Rabbi, Harry Houdini (b. Ehrich Weiss) ran away from home at age 12.” Fittingly, this is magical beer that will be sure to disappear in your home.
