Students, teachers, parents, volunteers, and guests will take to the halls this Friday to celebrate the Reading is Fundamental Literacy Campaign at McKinley Elementary School (350 Loma Alta Dr.). Students will be able to pick and keep a new book at no cost to them or their families. Highlights include special marine life-themed book handouts, as well as a family-friendly story time. Since its inception more than 20 years ago, the RIF program and the S.B. Public Library System have given away more than 60,000 free books to area school children. This year’s event is Friday, March 20, from 1-2:30 p.m. Call 564-5646 for more info.
