Lompoc was long known as the flower seed capital of the world. Today, the majority of the flower fields have been replaced by vineyards, but the town still takes its colorful flora seriously. For example, the Lompoc Valley in Bloom program maintains nearly 400 barrels of flowers throughout the valley as well as at the entrances to schools. To help keep the city in blossoms, the second annual Hay Bales and Cocktails fundraiser is being held Sunday, January 31, from 1-4 p.m. at Campbell Ranch (4500 Hapgood Rd.). The event includes a chuck wagon buffet, wine tasting, cocktails, music, a fashion show, and a silent and live auction. Cost is $40 pre-sale; $50 at event. Proceeds go to the Lompoc Valley in Bloom community beautification program. For tickets and info, call 736-4567 or visit lompoc.com.
