This is in response to the letter to the editor from Edward Bear regarding Tuttini’s Bakery and Café, which rented space from me at 10 E. Carrillo Street. [“Property Wrongs,” 2/25/10.] He wrote, about the eviction, “They hadn’t done anything wrong nor missed any rent payments.”

I can assure you that I have no desire to have my property vacant, and I very much wanted Tuttini’s to succeed at that location. The cafe owners were late with their rent on several occasions and more than once wrote checks that bounced. I reduced their rent three times, once quite substantially by waiving their obligation to pay taxes and insurance. Nonetheless, when they were evicted, they were in serious arrears on their rent payments.

I suggest that in the future you check the accuracy and truthfulness of letters to the editor when they do not just give opinions but purportedly recite facts, to avoid exposing a person or corporation to unfounded and unwarranted public ridicule and embarrassment.—William Ernest Poulis, Esq.
