The Environmental Defense Center is hosting an event on May 7 that will celebrate the green practices of the Santa Ynez Valley. The “How Green is Our Valley” TGIF Event will be held at the Solvang Theaterfest Courtyard (420 Second Street), with the festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. The purpose of the event is to further educate the progressive-minded central coast inhabitants of future plans for environmentally conscious developments, as well as provide a venue to meet members of the community.

A recent press release stated that: “Attendees will learn about green building opportunities from speaker Dennis Allen of Allen & Associates, and see displays featuring the impressive activities of over a dozen local nature and environmental organizations.”

David Landecker, Executive Director of the EDC, said “The EDC has a history of helping environmental causes in the Santa Ynez Valley. It is a unique and beautiful area in a community dedicated to safeguarding its agriculture lands and natural resources. We are delighted to host our first ever TGIF in the Santa Ynez Valley.”

Guests must pay a $10 entry fee which will include area food and wines, as well as live music. The event is sponsored by local businesses such as REC Solar, Dr J’s Bike Shop, Rolling Hills Garden Center and Gypsy Canyon Winery.
