It’s been a long couple of weeks for Joyce Dudley since defeating Joshua Lynn in the June 8 election. But on Tuesday, Dudley was sworn in as district attorney, the second female ever to be elected to the office.

While normally the elected DA would have to wait until January to be sworn in, the Board of Supervisors placed Dudley in the spot early to replace Christie Stanley, who retired in January, a year before her term was up and months before passing away from lung cancer.

The event, which saw the county boardroom filled with Dudley’s friends, family, and coworkers, was not filled with the drama that had consumed much of the last two weeks. Not present was Josh Lynn, who was terminated by acting DA Ann Bramsen a week following the election. After being sworn in by Judge Frank Ochoa, Dudley said there were “no words to express the overwhelming feeling of honor.”
