Accused Accessory to Murder Changes Plea

A woman accused of acting as an accessory to murder in the Hendry’s Beach homicide case changed her plea from not guilty to no contest this week. Witnesses put Brittany Weiler, 20, at the scene of the April 15 incident, and she was arrested by sheriff’s deputies a few days later. Reports indicated she drove stabbing suspect Adrian Robles away from the area in a white Nissan Altima.

A 17-year-old female juvenile proven to be in the getaway car was also taken into custody on the same charges, but further information about her involvement is unavailable because of her age.

According to prosecutor Hilary Dozer, Weiler’s new plea means that she essentially admits guilt. She is officially charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact, helping Robles escape arrest and prosecution, and she has reportedly admitted to a gang enhancement. Dozer said no deal was reached between the prosecution and defense attorney Doug Hayes. Calls to Hayes had not been returned as of press time.

Dozer explained that Weiler will remain in custody until October 19 during which time the judge will entertain a motion that she be released on bail until her sentencing in January.

While Dozer said it was likely Weiler will be released on bail, he said she faces a sentence of six months to seven years in prison. On her MySpace page, Weiler described herself as “a Dedicated Stoner Marijuana Patient” and wrote, “I avoid Drama if i could make a career outta smokkin Dank i honestly would! No regrets.” She listed her occupation as “Drug Dealler.”

A preliminary hearing for Robles — who has pled not guilty to the stabbing murder of Robert Simpson — is set for August 19.
