Authorities discovered the body of a person they believe to be a 64-year-old local man while responding Friday morning to a traffic collision on southbound Highway 101 between Mission and Carrillo Streets.

A firefighter stumbled upon the body in the bushes between the freeway and the railroad tracks while investigating the car collision, and called Santa Barbara police detectives. There was no evidence of foul play or trauma, said police spokesman Lt. Paul McCaffrey, who said authorities don’t know how long the body had been there.

The Coroner’s Office is confirming the identity of the person, and will also determine the cause of death.
