The Anti-Bottle Available for Marathon

Running gear specialists Santa Barbara Running with stores in Santa Barbara and Goleta, has brought in a supply of vapur beverage bottles for the upcoming Santa Barbara Marathon and holiday shopping season.

Key staff at Santa Barbara Running were quick to recognize the benefits of vapur bottles after not only seeing them but taking them out on a couple of training runs. The bottles are BPA-free, reusable, foldable, stowable, dishwasher-safe freezable and extremely durable. All of which makes them not only a great addition for runners and other outdoor active people but, importantly, very helpful in reducing plastic pollution in landfills and wild places.

The half-liter bottles will be available at both of the Santa Barbara and Goleta stores and at the Marathon Expo taking place November 5 at the Santa Barbara City College Sport Pavilion from 11 am to 8 pm.

Both a full and a half marathon will take place November 6. The full marathon starts at Dos Pueblos High School and ends at La Playa Stadium with the half marathon beginning at Tucker’s Grove and ending at La Playa as well.

While very much a necessary part of our world for the foreseeable future, excessive use of non-reusable / non-recycled plastic is a major threat to our planet. “As runners those of us who compete or just run for pleasure see a lot of plastic waste along our roadways, trails and beaches,” says Monica DeVreese of Santa Barbara Running “it not only looks terrible but ruins habitat and can leach dangerous toxins into the soil, ground water, creeks, lakes, oceans, etc. potentially hurting us all. It’s been estimated that 5 million plastic beverage bottles are used in the U.S. every five minutes. On a global basis this is a huge problem and is compounded when plastic bags and other items are factored in. We’ve always been in favor of reuse and recycling and the vapur bottles are just another way for us to help.”
