Turkeys Needed

Each year, Foodbank collects turkeys that in turn go to organizations that serve free Thanksgiving meals to families in need. While it’s always a push to reach the goal of nearly 3,000 frozen birds needed, this year has gotten off to a particularly difficult start. Foodbank has received fewer than 10 turkeys since the food drive kicked off November 1. “Without this food, many families would not have enough to eat,” said David Coelho of Catholic Charities, which provides free hot meals. The good news is there is still time to help, and here’s how: Bring a frozen turkey and nonperishable foods to the S.B. Foodbank (4554 Hollister Ave., 967-5741) or the Santa Maria Foodbank (490 W. Foster Rd., 937-3422) by Tuesday, November 23.
