Goleta’s future ice skating rink—slated for a 1.3-acre patch of land in Girsh Park near Camino Real Marketplace—is a few dollars closer to becoming a reality. Representatives with the Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association, a nonprofit organization formed in 2003 to complete the rink after the initial for-profit venture fell through, said $456,000 was donated to the group in the last 90 days. A total of $2.5 million has been given thus far, and $4 million needs to be raised for the project to go out to construction bids. The latest donations are a welcome gesture as contribution totals have hovered around the $2 million mark since last March.
