Friends and family can compete in relays and games, including a basketball tournament, skateboarding competition, and 5K run/walk, during the “SK805K Games for Change” community gathering this weekend.

The event aims to raise money for youth development, splitting the proceeds between the Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation, Arts for Action, and the Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project. The games will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, at Channel Islands High School and College Park in Oxnard.

A skateboard deck design competition as well as a skateboarding contest is being organized by Arts for Action, a youth organization, at Oxnard’s College Park. The winners of each will be awarded $150 cash. The Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation, a 29-year-old nonprofit affordable housing organization, is hosting the 5-K Run/Walk. The basketball tournament will be hosted by the Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project, which is in support of Ventura County’s roughly 20,000 indigenous people from the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Guerrero.
