At 9:44 am, Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC FD) responded to a vehicle rollover, located on Hwy 101 south bound, just north of the Gaviota Tunnel.

Gaviota roll-over, December 29, 2010

A light duty pickup truck with a small camper was traveling south bound on highway 101. The driver lost control and vehicle rolled over. The roads were wet at the time of the accident. The 69-year-old male driver was treated at the scene by firefighters and transported to the hospital via AMR ambulance with minor injuries.

CHP closed the number one lane of highway 101 for approximately 40 minutes due to the accident.

Because of the proximity of the accident to a sharp 45 mile per hour turn, the CHP slowed traffic in the area to prevent further accidents. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the CHP.
